On September 3, 2026, a medical team of ophthalmology experts from Peking University People’s Hospital, organized and dispatched by the National Health Commission’s Center for International Exchange and Cooperation, set out once again for Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The team was undertaking a medical assistance mission lasting approximately two weeks.
During the mission, the team performed complex procedures, including Uzbekistan’s first Eyebright Medical trabeculectomy. Through hands-on training and professional exchanges, they also shared advanced medical concepts and techniques with local practitioners. Eyebright Medical supplied intraocular lenses and viscoelastic agents for the procedures in this “International Journey of Brightness,” supporting each sight-restoring operation with high-quality, domestically made ophthalmic surgical products and helping local patients regain their sight.

Compassion Across Borders: Domestic Products Support Every Step
During the “Health Express” International Light Journey, the medical team performed 354 eye surgeries—54 more than planned. The team also successfully carried out Uzbekistan’s first Eyebright Medical trabeculectomy, along with multiple complex combined glaucoma procedures.
Eyebright Meical has domestically manufactured intraocular lenses and viscoelastic agents were used throughout the mission, providing local patients with high-quality ophthalmic surgical solutions and helping ensure each sight-restoring procedure went smoothly. On the path to better eye health, compassion crossed both language and national borders. Patients who regained clear vision thanked the Chinese medical team with embraces and thumbs-up. Every expression of gratitude was a powerful affirmation of Chinese medical expertise and homegrown ophthalmic innovation.

Sharing Skills to Build a Medical Team That Can Stay
This mission was not only a cross-border charitable effort, but also a practical overseas initiative to strengthen local medical capabilities. Many local ophthalmologists came to observe and learn from the visiting team. Through demonstrations and hands-on instruction—including surgical demonstrations, joint consultations, ongoing technical exchanges, and personnel visits—the team helped local doctors progress from learning by observation to performing procedures independently.
These efforts are helping improve local capacity to diagnose and treat cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye conditions, so that established ophthalmic techniques and medical approaches can take root in the region. Ophthalmic cooperation between China and Uzbekistan continues to deepen.
